Completed 2005
Buffalo, NY

The complete renovation of the Native American Magnet School No. 19 was part of the first phase of the Buffalo Board of Education Reconstruction Project. Our goals for the project were not only to remodel the existing 1899 / 1930 structure but to increase classroom sizes, improve learning spaces and meet current building code, life safety and ADA requirements.

The exterior received a new handicapped accessible main entry and a complete window replacement using divided light single-hung windows similar to those in the building's original design. Highlights included transforming an unused central courtyard in to a play space for kindergarten through third grade students and expanding an undersized cafeteria in to a featured courtyard space. Extensive mechanical and technology improvements, including a new air-conditioning system, comprised a large portion of the building reconstruction project.
